How does it feel to be you?

I remember one day back in 2018, I was driving home from work and for some reason it occurred to me how I was feeling. I had a pretty run-of-the-mill day at work, my home life was fine etc etc etc. Nothing out of the ordinary. But I just felt so bad. I felt like I was down in the dumps and I had no idea why.
Cue popping the hood on myself to find out what was going on. I read so many self-help books on how to fix the various problems in my life. At the time, in the moment, none of it helped. Looking back now, I can see I was barking up the wrong tree. You see, no one teaches us in school how to properly process our feelings. All I needed to do was to learn how to feel my feelings, and feel like it was okay to have these feelings. Understand that I’m not wrong for feeling this way. The only thing I knew how to do was to shut up and put up. Push those feelings away, this is life and that is just the way it is.
But is that really true? That this is just life and that’s the way it is? Of course it’s not true! When we learn how to process our feelings properly, we learn how to sift through the negative emotional energy that arises in our daily lives and take away the productive message within. Valuable information on what we will and won’t stand for in our lives, where we truly want our boundaries to be. And once we have clarity on what we truly want our boundaries to be, we have a starting point to make the necessary changes in our lives so we don’t feel so utterly rotten for no good reason.
Fast forward a few years and a lot of consciously feeling my emotions, I feel consistently better than I have ever felt in my life. And I know that you can too.
